Education

Overview

Education programs focus on how people learn, in order to identify the most effective ways to teach. Their purpose is to equip you with the skills and knowledge to help your students succeed.

Course Work & Learning Outcomes

As an education major, you’ll study the subjects you plan to teach, while practicing the skills you’ll need to do so. Common education majors include:

  • Elementary education
  • Secondary education
  • Special education

Typical courses include educational psychology, child development, and lesson planning. Based on your area of focus, your classes might also cover school health & safety, individualized education programs (IEPs), or specialized topics like music, history, or chemistry.

Career Outlook

You can use your education degree to get a job as an elementary or high school teacher, an early intervention specialist, a librarian, or a guidance counselor. Best-paying titles include music teacher, instructional coordinator, and school principal.
