How to Take a Study Break That Works

Kierstin Pitcher-Holloway, Southern Utah University / Southern Utah University »

Whether it’s spring, summer or fall semester, if you’re enrolled in college classes you know that burnout is a real thing. Taking study breaks can be important, especially while spending additional time at home. Here are some ideas for quick study breaks that take ten minutes or less:

Take a Walk

Explore your neighborhood, or walk a dog around the block. Fresh air can do wonders, just make sure to practice social distancing while you’re enjoying mother nature.

Dance Break

Dancing is a great way to relieve stress and lift spirits. So, turn on your favorite song and dance like there’s no tomorrow.

Clean

A quick cleaning break can help you feel productive and accomplished, and it can also make your space more enjoyable.

Meditate

There are tons of short guided meditations online. Or you can just turn on some calming music and practice mindful breathing for a couple minutes.

Make a Call

Everyone needs social interaction, it can help with emotional health and productivity. A quick phone call just to say hello, won’t break any social distancing rules and might be just what you needed.

Eat a Snack

Healthy snacks are optimal, but comfort food definitely serves serious emotional needs when studying rigorously or preparing for finals.

It is important to do well in your classes, but it is also important to take care of yourself! So remember that it’s okay to take a little break every now and then.
