Program Details & Highlights
The Presidio Graduate School MBA is designed for business leaders who want to enact meaningful change with their work. PGS offers an MBA program that combines theory and practice to help students understand the complex issues that define and incentivize sustainability. To ensure applicable, direction-driven results, all MBA students are required to satisfy an experiential learning in three foundational courses. Students are paired with an organization to work on a specific project for a semester, making real-world change while growing as leaders.
The MBA program focuses on three program foundations:
- Sustainable systems: Students learn about such topics as sustainability literacy, ethics, and social justice within the context of business and entrepreneurship.
- Sustainable leadership: This pillar of the MBA curriculum is designed for students who are ready to lead the change. Its coursework emphasizes collaboration and civic engagement to develop personal efficacy, adaptability, and resiliency.
- Sustainable business: Students are prepared to execute practical management proficiencies at an advanced level. Courses focus on data analysis, critical thinking, innovation, and capital management.
Students can further specialize by choosing elective courses that align with their personal and professional goals:
- Energy Systems for Sustainability
- Climate and Social Responsibility
- New Ventures and Product Innovation–Entrepreneurship
- Capital Structures and Technology for Impactful Financial Markets

With active support from donors and institutional funds, PGS offers the following generous scholarships and fellowships:
- Sustainability Founders Fund Scholarship: Created to honor the vision of the school’s incredible founders, this award provides tuition assistance through merit and need-based scholarships.
- John Spiekhout Fellowship for Civic Leadership and Social Justice: Three awards of $8,300 each are awarded annually to PGS students. This scholarship honors the memory of John Spiekhout, whose support of numerous charities and civic initiatives reflected his belief in hard work, equal opportunity, kindness, and integrity.
- Segal AmeriCoprs Matching Education Fund Award: Each year, three full-time students receive an award of up to $5,000 for the successful completion of an AmeriCorps term of service. This unique award is made possible by the generosity of Suzanne Farver.
PGS is a community of driven, intelligent, creative business leaders who share a common goal to change the world through ethical business practices. The graduate student experience is as immersive as it is flexible, blending on-campus residencies with efficient online distance learning to accommodate busy schedules.
Every Presidio student meets their cohort through a weekend orientation at NatureBridge just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Immersed in nature, these peers get to know one another as they learn about the school’s mission and values. From there, the cohort meets once a month for 10 months for intensive, in-person Residencies that allow students to network, collaborate, and become more closely knit. Not only do Residency weekends bring together students in the same cohort, but they also attract alumni and other community members with receptions, speaker events, and professional development programs.
Between each Residency weekend, students work remotely through online distance learning. Here, Presidians attend online class sessions, complete independent assignments, and engage in real-world contexts that bring their education to life.
